Getting the Orton Effect
The Orton effect is a lovely technique that adds both sharpness and softness to your photos, producing an ethereal glow. It’s also easy to do, as Mike Rodriguez shows in this video based on an earlier article from Photoshop Elements Techniques magazine.

I’ve used the Orton Effect using the instructions in the magazine, however, I used it on a landscape scene and I loved the results. I just don’t think that this rusted-out car shows the lovely effect one can achieve using Orton. I think another scene such as the one in the original magazine article would have served better.

Thanks for the feedback, Sandra. I agree that it’s a great effect for landscapes. Because, IMO, landscapes and nature-type scenes are a fairly common subject for this effect, I thought I’d try it on something different this time around. I’m sorry it didn’t work for you, but that’s OK. Different folks will like different things. I’d love to see some of your Orton-styled landscapes. If you ever post any, feel free to post a link.
Thanks again for taking the time to comment, and hopefully the next one will be more to your liking. :)

I’m sorry to hear that, Veronica. Feel free to drop a note to Rick LePage, the Editor in Chief, and see if he can help you get the technical issues sorted out.
