Online Training Frequently Asked Questions

Q:

What will I need to take this online training?

A:

Well, first you’ll need a computer of course. Besides that you’ll need the following:

  1. Photoshop Elements.
  2. An internet browser. The class is designed to work with most browser versions. We recommend Internet Explorer or FireFox.
  3. The latest version of Adobe Reader (download here) to read the PDF’s you get each day.
  4. The Adobe Flash Player to watch the videos (download here)
  5. The tutorials can only be viewed online as streaming video - they cannot be downloaded to your computers. While high-speed internet access is not required, we definitely do recommend it for a faster, smoother viewing experience.

Q: How long do I have to complete the class?
A: You have a total of 60 days in which to complete the 21-day class.

Q: What happens if I miss a day’s lesson?
A: If you miss a day’s lesson, you can go back and complete at your convenience. Also, you may review lessons you have already completed, as long as you do so within your 60-day class activation period.

Q: Can I skip ahead if I finish my daily lesson early?
A: You may not skip ahead to future classes.

Q: What if the class I want to take has already started?
A: Classes start when you activate your Student ID for the class you’ve chosen, so you will never enter a class that has already begun.

Q: How can I determine if a class is within my skill level?
A: Classes are designed to be accessible to students of any age or skill level. The casual, conversational style makes learning easy and fun, regardless of the complexity of the material.

Q: What version of Photoshop Elements or Premiere Elements will I need?
A: Some techniques might require the latest version of Adobe® Photoshop Elements™ or Adobe® Premiere Elements™, but many others will be applicable to older versions of Elements. Each course description will tell you what the specific course uses.

Q: What if there’s something in the class that I don’t understand? Will I be able to ask questions or communicate with other students?
A: Sure. The best place to get your questions answered is in our forums at www.photoshopelementsuser.com/forum. There’s a dedicated forum for “Online Training” for situations just like this. Our training instructors as well as the 3000+ registered members in these forums are always more than happy to help you with questions.

Q: Will there be homework assigned? What about tests or quizzes?
A: There will be no homework assigned outside of the usual class work, and no quizzes or tests will be required.

Q: Will I need to purchase any books or additional study materials?
A: No additional study materials are required in order to take the course, but we do offer study materials on our website, including Scott Kelby’s best-selling books and DVDs on Photoshop Elements. In addition, our newsletter, Photoshop Elements Techniques is an excellent source for additional learning.

Q: I click the "Watch" link next to my preferred media player but nothing happens.
A: This can happen if you have pop-up ad blocking software installed on your computer as the videos will launch in a new window to play. If you don’t see the video window appear then you may want to try to turn the pop-up blocking software off and click the “Watch” link again.

Q: Why can't I see the entire movie on screen?
A:

Just as the required monitor resolution for Photoshop Elements is 1024 x 768, our movies need that monitor resolution too. If your monitor is set to 800 x 600 you will not be able to see the controls for the movies (nor will you be taking full advantage of Photoshop Elements itself). Here’s how to change your monitor resolution:

On a PC: Open Display in Control Panel. To open Display, click Start, click Control Panel, click Appearance and Themes, and then click Display. On the Settings tab, under Screen resolution, drag the slider until the numbers below read 1024 x 768, and then click Apply. (Note – if you’re resolution is currently higher than this there is no need to change your settings. Only change these settings if your resolution is 800 x 600 or less). When prompted to apply the settings, click OK. Your screen will turn black for a moment. It’s okay though, this will only last for a few seconds. Once your screen resolution changes, you have 15 seconds to confirm the change. Click YES to confirm the change; click No or do nothing to revert to your previous setting.

On a Mac: Go under the Apple menu and choose System Preferences. In the System Preferences dialog, click on the Displays icon. The Displays dialog will show your current screen resolution in the Resolutions list: click on 1024 x 768 (bigger if your monitor offers larger sizes). Close the Displays dialog.

Q: What do I do if I have any problems accessing the lessons or the class materials?
A: For problems accessing class materials or viewing videos, you can contact customer service by visiting this page: http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/contact.php
