To get a word cloud into PSE, set the colors to black on white, then use the Microsoft “snip” tool to copy the word cloud. Open a new blank file > paste > select the white background with the magic wand > inverse > copy. Then you can paste it onto another photo. It will be a new layer with a transparent background and effects can be applied.

    Thanks for the great article.

I’m new to this and confused. I can’t get the transparent background. I have the “dancing ants”, hit delete, nothing happens. The contiguous box is unchecked. Not sure what the “snip” tool is.

The transparent background is the default of a new layer — the checkerboard is what indicates transparency. The “Snip” tool comes with Windows and allows you to take a screen shot. Remember to copy the words & paste into a new file. These projects are sometimes beyond a new user because of all the steps involved. Try YouTube — enter some “How do I” questions. There are also some great tutorials on this site for tools and concepts.
