    A great video to help explain what the channels do to the colour, and how to use an adjustment layer.
    Care when using this technique is very important, as you can quiet easily add a colour cast to your photo. The thing about changing a digital photo of today, to look like a film photo of days gone by, raises the question, do we want a photo to look like it was taken forty years ago, with low contrast, little detail, and a colour shift. If the answer is yes, then this is the way to achieve that effect.
