My only complaint with this tutorial is that the displacement function is never explained…I mean “what is going on?” Is something being “displaced”? What is being displaced and with what? There are several other tutorials on the subject of displacement maps (both video and written) in the PET library and not once is the function explained in even a rudimentary fashion. Could someone explain what is happening, or at least lead me to a reference which does explain it.’
Otherwise the effect is fantastic!!! Clarke

Clarke,
You’re absolutely right – we need to do something that does a better job of discussing what displacement maps are, and how they work.

Thanks for the comeback Rick…I hope I did not come across as being “snotty”, because I didn’t mean it in that sense. These tutorials and the forum have been an absolute God-send to me and I am sure for many others. It is just that for some reason, and for some topics (not many)…depth seems to be avoided. Again my thanks for all that you guys do!! Clarke

Not ‘snotty’ at all, Clarke – I think it’s a really good idea to talk about this in a bit more depth. I just need to find the right presenter to do it. ;)

Thank you for this tutorial. For some reason I have struggled to grasp the concept and execution of displacement maps…I think I’m finally starting to get it. And your printable “cheatsheets” for tutorials are much appreciated.

Anxiously awaiting next video and cheat sheet. How about a good video on bokeh effects using elements?

Would love to see more videos on this technique – different applications, etc. Thanks!
