I thought this article was magnificant!! The handling of the preset manager s (which has always defeated me since the beginning), was excellent and masterfully done!! Another home-run for Ms Day. I have a few items on which I have a question, but will introduce them on the general forum. Clarke

Dear Diana, I am a newby to the ara of Elements, and i love it, but wonder if you can assist me in one small problem. ? I was following a tutorial about the brush tool in which I was supposed to make a brush, then simplify it, then go to the edit Menu and click on “define Brush” in order to keep it for future use, but this is greyed out in my edit menu. I have tried other roundabouts , but cannot use that define brush, can you tell me what I am doing wrong, or where to go to get assistance ? Thank you “Ben”

Your brush size is probably too big.
Try making the image smaller (under 1500 pixels x 1500 pixels) and try again.
Also, make sure you have the image layer selected before trying the define brush function.

I still have a problem .
I create a new brush. I want to save it permanently with the brushes.
How can i get it to stay there once I have changed brushes?

The article on Brushes downloadable at the top of this page gives instructions for installing custom brushes so they permanently show up in your brush picker. In the PDF article, scroll down until you see the blue box with the heading “Create Your Own Brush.” Starting with the second paragraph in the blue box, it describes how to use Edit>Preset Manager to save a custom brush (or multiple brushes) in a set that will show up in your brush picker permanentlly. The updated path to the brushes presets folder for Windows 7 is as follows (substitute your version of Elements).
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 11\Presets\Brushes
