Very well done, easy to follow. My question is this, when you save the new brushes, are they saved in a spot on the hard drive, which means you have to retrieve them when ever needed? Or, are they also saved in the brushes palette?
Btw, I am a new member, I have gotten so much from Elements User in such a short time, I wish I had joined ages ago, thanks to everyone at Elements User… Cheers!

Hi Allan, I usually save my brushes to a folder on the hard drive – and I do have to retrieve them when I want to use them. I don’t usually install them in the Photoshop Elements brushes folder because I like to keep that folder clean and streamlined. I’m doing a video soon on how and where to save brushes!

    Dear Kareen,
………………thank you for a very nice explanation of the star brushes, it is amazing how you folks make it all sound so simple to us beginners and we appreciate that. I do have trouble ‘saving these things though. I know I should create a new file somehow, but am a raw beginner and have no immediate resource to turn to. When i try to ‘save; things they vanish from my ken…I guess thats one of the failings of being a very late starter ( read ‘ancient) but its fun anyway and i have printed out my ‘cheat-sheet’ and shall endevour to follow you great instructions.. thanks again.. “Ben”

Dear karen, I tried to follow your excellent instructions, full of enthusiasm, until i got to the point where i was told to go to the edit menu and click on “define brush”..this command was greyed out and so i could go no further. I have noticed this on another occassion when i tried to follow one of Diana’s istructions, again , no luck. I wonder if there is something else i should be doing to comply with this instruction. If you know of somewhere that i can get help i would be glad to hear of it….being a total ( nearly 80 ) newby I am afraid i am not a riot with this new fangled stuff, even though i get much pleasure from doing photos of my great grand children…..but I do long to get better. Thank…”Ben”

    Dear Karen,
………………….when I attempted to do as you instructed I came upon a big difficulty..I was following your instructions and when it got to the part where the instructions say to go the Edit Menu, and click on the DEFINE BRUSH, I was unable to do so because this is greyed out, I could therefore not contin ue. I am really dissapoined, as i was looking forward to adding that sparkle to my great-grand-daughters candles on her 3rd birthday cake….photo taken last week. Is there some explanation for this is it a fault in my elements 9 layout ? I wish here was some source that I coluld access to find out the reason for the greyed out stuff….thank you for your video anyway, I loved it.. “Ben”

Hi Alfred, Sorry it took me awhile to answer your question. I was away for a brief vacation. I think Lynn is on the right track with her response. “Alfred, are you clicking the ‘simplify’ before trying to use the define brush? Without simplifying the define brush will not be an option. Hope this works for you.” Please give it a try!
