I’m very much hoping that parts 2 & 3 go into a lot more detail with the selection tools. While this video did show the very basics of the marquee and the lasso tools, it didn’t go into much detail at all. I think it would be A LOT more useful to demonstrate them in situations that you might actually use them. With the exception of hitting the delete key to back up while using the magnetic lasso, there was really little here that a user wouldn’t immediately pick up on his own. The demonstration of the polygonal lasso was particularly nonsensical — again, would be much better in a situation/with a picture where it might actually come in handy.

We’ve done a little bit more in the magazine on selection tools, especially the lassos. Diana did a great piece on using the Polygonal Lasso, while Jeff Carlson did a nice overview with a little bit more detail as well.

When I play the videos the screen is very small and I can’t see what is going on to the right of the screen. I don’t see any option for enlarging the video screen.

Try pressing F11 (in Firefox or Internet Explorer) or click the link entitled: “Problems viewing this video? Try opening it in a new window.”
