    I’m using elements 8 on a mac.
    In step 4 I have to choose layers >group with previous.

    I cannot find this and the help function is very useful either.

    Can someine tell fhow to achieve this?

      Create clipping mask under the layers menu or Alt-click between the blur layer and the adjustment layer.
