Filmstrip Collages: Examples and Resources

By Diana Day  ·  Issue: May/June 2010 (v7n3)

Custom shapes are a great way to create a template for your photos. However, there are other forms of ready-made filmstrip templates available online.

Awesome! Thanks for so many resources on filmstrips (and templates!. Last year, I spent a long time trying to make one and finally succeeded, but I’m sure there had to be an easier way! :-)

    Great Article!!!

I was wondering where you find the template or instructions for the last photo collage of Scotchie. I’d love to know how to change the filmstrip like that!!!

    Thank you

      Hi Erica,

Sorry I didn’t see your question sooner. The filmstrip I used in the collage of Scotchie is from this site:
      http://www.storeide.se/gunhild/Scrapbooking.htm

Scroll almost to the bottom of the page to see it. It’s the Curled Negative Film Frames set. I believe I copied and pasted an extra frame to the top of the filmstrip to make it longer.

It looks like she’s taken down the set. I couldn’t find it anywhere on her site.

There is a “Friday Freebie” page, here:
        http://www.storeide.se/gunhild/

        But no frames…

        Sorry about that.

Can’t seem to get my photos into the film strip properly…I get them positioned ok, but then when I use the polygonal lasso and do the inverse select/delete, I get an error message that the smart object is not directly editable. Any ideas why this would be? (the images are .tifs, if that matters)

Loved the article, I’m planning to use the concept as a yearbook ad for our son. Thanks!
