So I just read your technique and went into PSE immediately to test various sharpening approaches.
I had previously used Filter>options>high pass with blend mode of hard light. I then read that the unsharp mask approach was best. And recently read that i should use the sharpen function. Your approach reminded me of the cutoff slider in unsharp mask. I did my test and preferred the sharpen and high-pass filter (i was surprised)
So, could you list the top sharpening approaches and if there is a reason to select it (eg works better in XYZ situation) that would be really helpful.

I too would like the answer to Aaron’s question posted on June 28, i.e., which tool is best for various situations…..thanks

Matt and Scott’s The Photoshop Elements 7 Book has a chapter entitled “Sharp Dressed Man” that covers in detail when to use the various types of sharpening.
I’m assuming that the editions which cover 8, 9 and 10 have similar chapters, but I am not sure of that.
