Easy Selections With the Polygonal Lasso
Photoshop Elements provides several selection tools, all of which will do an effective job of selecting a subject to extract it from the background. My favorite approach, although it may seem unconventional to some users, is to use the Polygonal Lasso tool.

This article is a little misleading (or the opening picture is). I appreciated the advice on selecting, but the tutorial did not say anything about creating realistically looking shadows.
So the result we get following the advice will not be even close to the great looking opening picture.

Hi Marina,
We’re weren’t _trying_ to be misleading; the real aim of the tutorial was to help folks understand how powerful the Polygonal Lasso tool is for making selections — and that you often need a bunch of different tools and techniques for making good selections.
