The brick wall that was in the download was not textured they were in fact smooth, so the airplane only took on a smooth look. The picture that was taken was not the picture that was in the download.

    Hi Herbert,

I’m sorry about the confusion! It is a different image. We were unable to offer Mike’s original brick image for download, but we still wanted to offer readers a way to try out the tutorial without having to go and shoot their own textures. I’ve tried to make that clearer above.

It’s true that the bricks are not as rough as in the original image; but the texture of the mortar and edges of the bricks should still produce the effect. If you’re having trouble picking up the texture, try going back to your displacement map (Steps 1 through 4) and increase the contrast in Step 2. I’ve found that can make the effect more pronounced.

I can’t get step 8 in the tutorial to apply the needed displacement map. Anyone else having trouble with this step?
The displace dialog shows and I edit the values as shown, click OK, then choose my map file but nothing happens. I have the top layer (the airplane image) select . . . still nothing happens. I’m certain of this b/c the option to ‘undo’ in Edit menu does not indicate that I can undo the the displace filter.
    Any suggestions?
