Should I upgrade?
Anytime a new version of an application comes out, one of the first questions people ask is should I upgrade? In the case of Photoshop Elements 4.0, there are a number of reasons to consider getting the new version, many of which we will cover throughout this resource center. You may read about one new feature that, for you, is worth the price of an upgrade. There’s no question that the choice is a very personal one – some people will upgrade immediately, while others will “wait and see”. It is worth remembering that new tools and features are not the only reasons for upgrading – software manufacturers also make a lot of “under-the-hood” changes to improve performance, and for many users, that alone makes the upgrade worthwhile. Whatever your decision, Photoshop Elements Techniques will support users of both Photoshop Elements 3.0 and Photoshop Elements 4.0.
How do I upgrade?
Technically, Photoshop Elements 4.0 is not really an upgrade: you purchase the new version from your favorite local or online retailer and you’ll receive a rebate coupon for owners of a previous version of Photoshop Elements (or a variety of programs – see below). The suggested retail price for Photoshop Elements 4.0 is $99.99 USD with a $20 Competitive/Upgrade Mail-in Rebate. The products that qualify for the rebate are - previous versions of Adobe Photoshop Elements, Adobe Photoshop Album, Adobe Photoshop LE and Adobe PhotoDeluxe; Microsoft Digital Image Pro or Suite; Microsoft Picture It!; Jasc Paint Shop Pro, Studio, or Photo Album; Ulead Photo Imapct; Roxio PhotoSuite; Magix Digital Photo Maker or PhotoStory.
Adobe is also offering a package that includes both Photoshop Elements 4.0 and Premiere Elements 2.0 in a “bundle” that has a suggested retail price of $149.99 with a $30 Open Mail-in Rebate (this rebate is available to all purchasers).
(International users, please check the Adobe web site in your part of the world for details on pricing and upgrade policies)
Will you still cover Photoshop Elements3.0 in the newsletter?
Yes! Although Photoshop Elements 4.0 has a bunch of great new features, we will not leave behind our readers that choose to remain with Photoshop Elements 3.0. As much as possible we will create tutorials that will work on both versions of the software, and if we ever do write about tools that are only in Photoshop Elements 4.0, we’ll make every effort to offer a solution that works in Photoshop Elements 3.0.
What about a version for the Macintosh?
Photoshop Elements 4.0 is currently only available for the Windows platform, but Adobe have told us that they are "working on a Macintosh version". We will continue along the same path we always have: to include Macintosh shortcuts for Photoshop Elements 3.0 wherever possible, and to indicate if a feature or tool is Windows-only.
Is this an Adobe web site?
