Using a Brush in Photoshop Elements Without Installing It
If you download many new brush sets to use in Elements, you may not wish to install them all in the Presets/Brushes folder as it may cause Elements to run slower.

The timing for this article is great. I really need to try it since I have thousands of fonts and simply “can’t” install them all. I wish Adobe would make it possible to do the same with fonts that we do with brushes. Thanks Diana. Screen shots are very helpful. Sue

Hi Sue,
You’re welcome…. I’m glad this article was helpful to you.
Fonts actually aren’t installed in Elements. Elements just uses the fonts you have installed through your computer’s operating system, i.e. Windows. One way you can use a font without installing it, is to double click on the font file (first make sure it’s unzipped if it’s zipped). That should open a window where you can view the font. Leave that font window open; you can minimize it to get it out of the way, if you wish. Now restart Elements and you should be able to find that font in your font picker drop-down in the Type tool’s option bar at the top of the workspace.

Very simple explanation that was easy to follow and understand. As a new PSE user, so much info re techniques, features, tips, etc is very welcomed but can be overwhelming so I gravitate to brevity.

Thanks so much for the info on the brushes and fonts. Anything to keep my computer running faster is great. I was glad to see this technique on brushes as this is what I was doing. I made a folder and was just stuffing them in that for future install. Now I know that I do not have to waste my time. P.S. love this magazine and the online access.

Could you please explaim exactly what you mean when you say
“When using a brush you have loaded this way, and then you select a different brush set, the previous brush is no longer available in the brush picker. If you need that brush again, you must reload that set.”
What is the ‘previous brush”?
How do you reload it?
Thanks
