Making a Scrapbook Template

By Wendy Williams  ·  January 19th, 2009

People often ask how can they make a scrapbook page template so I thought that I write a tutorial showing you how to do just that. It is really simple and once the template is made then it is very easy to use it time and time again.

Help please! I am trying to do step 12 which is selecting the circular mat. I’m using the elipical marquee as instructed and I’m holding down the Shift key to get a perfect circle. How do I make the circle the exact same size to cover the circle in to photo? I get it too small, too big, but I do not see how to get it an exact match to circle in the picture. What am I missing?

    Hi Pat …

When you make the circle it doesn’t need to be the exact size of mine .. you just make it the size you want yours to be.

When you get to step 22 you will be discarding the background layer (the picture of the scrapbook page that you are using to create your template. However if you do want the circle to be the exact size then just do step 12 and step 13 then select the Move Tool and use that to increase or decrease the size of the filled circle that you made in step 13. If you need any more help with it then just post a message on the forum and I will help you with it.

    Regards
    Wendy :)

Thanks. I thought I remembered how to do this from a class I took, but I forgot the step in turning off the eyeball icon. I am trying to help my daughter make templates so she can get caught up on her family scrapbooking. This tutorial was easy to understand.

Thanks Wendy. The concepts you illustrate in creating selections and layers based on existing graphics are useful in many ways. This is a great tutorial for teaching techniques that can be applied in different situations.

It was more logical for me to add and name the new layer first then use the lasso tool to select something. That way it. appeared in the layer automatically. When I did it as per instructions in the tutorial I had to click on the layer to see my results or click ctr-z.

I copied the first image in this tutorial and used it to make the template. I had to lower the resolution of my template to 500 x 500 pix to match the image resolution. Stretching the image to fit the larger resolution of 3600 x 3600 distorted the image too much. I wonder if there was a larger resolution image to download for this tutorial.

I had some good practice with the polygonal lasso.

Can I get a copy of the scrapbook page that you used to create your template? Where can I get more scrapbook pages to use?
