I’m a 2 year newbie to Photoshop Elements… I try every so often to learn, get frustrated, and quit. Here I am again, this time a new subscriber and I hope this pushes me towards learning PE finally!

OK, I get to Step 4, no problem… then I get the error message: “could not stroke the layer because there is nothing to stroke”/

This is the story of my PE life, Error messages.

Thanks for any help you can give me! Wendy

      Hi Wendy,

After you’ve entered your text, click Enter. Then create the new layer.

You then need to put your cursor over the thumbnail icon for the text layer (in the Layers palette). If you hold down the Control key (Command on the Mac) and click once on the thumbnail, you will create a selection of the text on that layer. You should see ‘marching ants’ around the text you entered.

Then, when you select the Stroke Selection command, it will work because you have that selection made.

      Hope this helps,
      Rick

I have a problem with number 11, I do-Filter>Stylize, Wind, but than it states “and choose method: blast, direction, from the right, then click on OK—Where is this “method?—what comes up is “Could not complete the wind command because no pixels are selected” I really need help. thank you.

      Hi Ramona,

If you get that ‘no pixels selected’ message, it means that the selection (from Step 10) somehow got lost, or you didn’t do the ‘Stroke’ command from Step 6.

If you did stroke the text (creating that white outline), make sure the Blast layer is selected in the Layers palette, then move your mouse over the original Text layer (in the Layers palette) and hold down the Control key (or Command, if you’re on a Mac), and click once in the Text layer’s thumbnail icon. That should make a selection that will let you use the Wind filter.

      Hope this helps.

      Rick
