Colorizing a Photograph using Gradient Maps
I find this method a really good way to add realistic colour to a black & white image and it is actually a lot easier than you think.

I’ve been busy scanning old black and white family photos and wondering if I could give them new life. This looks like a way to do it, you may have a better way but I’m going to give it a go.
Thanks a lot,
Roy

Roy,
I just came upon your comment related to Colorizing a Black and White Photograph. When I attempt to apply the technique outlined by Wendy Williams, Elements 8, that I recently began using, doesn’t allow me to select, Color”, when I get into Gradient Map; therefore, I’m unable to complete the procedure as outlined! Were you successful with this technique, or did you modify it? Did you find a technique that worked for you to add color to your black and white images?

I need some more advice. I’m using Elements 8, and I’m trying to add color to an old family black and white image. When I get to Gradient Map and I want to set the Mode, it doesn’t allow me to select, “Color”! Therefore, I’m unable to continue forward with this technique, as outlined here! Any suggestions?
