Guidelines for Photo Contests and Submissions

Interested in entering one of your images to be considered for Subscriber Showcase or the monthly Photo Challenge? Here’s what you need to know:

Submitting to Subscriber Showcase

Each issue we choose some of the best recent work from our subscribers to include in the magazine. These can be recent photos, or images created using one of the tutorials in the magazine or from the website. (To see instructions for the P.E.T. Photo Challenge, scroll down.)

To upload your images for consideration in Subscriber Showcase, go to one of these two links:

Because of bandwidth considerations, you may need to resize your images before uploading them. Images should be no longer than 700 pixels on the longest side. If you get an error, the issue is likely that your image is too large.

All images submitted to the PET Subscriber Gallery are considered for Subscriber Showcase. If you are uploading images to Elements Village, please place the phrase “PET-showcase,” exactly as shown (without the quotes) in the Keywords field to be considered.

You can enter any other keywords, but using those will ensure that your image is seen by us. (If you’ve already uploaded images to the Village gallery, you can add the keywords later by going back to your image and choosing Edit Image from the Image Tools menu above your image.)

Additional Notes:

  • When uploading an image for Subscriber Showcase, please put in the description field a note about which tutorial or video you used when creating your image (if applicable). There are a lot of tutorials out there, and it helps us, especially for some of the more subtle effects.
  • Submissions must be your work, and your work alone (if it incorporates other individuals’ work, we would need to have permission rights from those people as well; if you are incorporating scrapbooking elements from commercial sites, we will just need to make sure that this usage is covered under the sale rights). You will retain all copyrights to the image; our sole interest is to display the creative talents of our subscribers.
  • You must have used Photoshop Elements as the primary editing/compositing tool in creating the image.
  • If you are one of the finalists being considered for Subscriber Showcase, you will be contacted by us and asked for a high-res version of your image and your permission to use the image in the magazine.

Submitting to P.E.T. Photo Challenge

To encourage PET subscribers to get out with your cameras, we recently started a new themed photo challenge. Each month we announce a new photo assignment. You then submit an image that best illustrates the theme before the month is over.

To enter a photo in the PET Photo Challenge, go to one of these two links:

To help us figure out which images are part of the month’s challenge, please include the phrase “Photo-challenge,” exactly as shown (without the quotes) with your entry. How you do this will depend on which gallery you are using:

  • If submitting to the PET Subscriber Gallery, please enter the phrase in the Caption field.

  • If submitting to Elements Village, enter this phrase in the Keywords field. (If you already have uploaded images to the Village gallery, you can add the keywords by going back to your image and choosing Edit Image from the Image Tools menu above your image.)

Because of bandwidth considerations, you may need to resize your images before uploading them. Images should be no longer than 700 pixels on the longest side. If you get an error, the issue is likely that your image is too large.

Additional Notes

  • If you are chosen as a “Top Pick” for the month, your image will be featured in a blog post on our website announcing the winners. Some winners may also be choosen to appear in the Subscriber Showcase section of the magazine. Unfortunately, because of space considerations, we cannot include everyone. If your image is selected for the magazine, you will be contacted separately and asked to provide a high-resolution version and your permission for a one-time printing of the image.
  •  Submissions must be your work, and your work alone (if it incorporates scrapbooking elements from commercial sites, we will just need to make sure that this usage is covered under the sale rights). You retain all copyrights to the image; our sole interest is to display the creative talents of our subscribers.
  •  Submissions must be posted within the challenge month to be considered. We often announce themes a few months ahead of time, so please be sure you have the right one.

Best of luck!
