September/October extras posted

By Rick LePage  ·  August 24th, 2011

The September/October issue of Photoshop Elements Techniques will start mailing to subscribers this week, and US subscribers should see their issues arriving in the next one to two weeks, reaching most U.S. subscribers by September 8. Delivery to Canada and most other international locations should be completed by September 22. (Australian delivery times for the past few issues have been much later than other international locations–we’re trying to figure out why, but haven’t had any luck so far in reducing the delays.)

This issue has lots of fun stuff in it, including Liz Ness’ “Create Haunting Halloween Images.” Since Halloween is only a couple of months away–where did that summer go?–we decided to post Liz’s article today as a downloadable PDF for everyone to enjoy. (The full PDF of the magazine will be posted on September 1.)

You can find all of the downloads and extra tutorials on the September/October 2011 magazine page, and don’t forget to check out the Links page for the issue, which contains all the web links mentioned throughout the issue; it’s a great timesaver.

The issue’s cover is by subscriber Steve Rich, of Aiken, South Carolina. Steve’s been a long-time contributor to the galleries, and does some really wonderful work with Photoshop Elements and HDR, and this shot of an old Chevy truck was a favorite shot of ours when we were going through the Subscriber Showcase selections for the issue. You can see a shot of the original–which had to be cropped to fit the cover’s portrait orientation–below.

The cool vintage frame Steve used is from the CoffeeShop Frames 12 collection, by our friend Rita over at the CoffeeShop Blog. As Steve says, “she is awesome with actions and the stuff she creates, on top of all the creating she does, she does it for FREE.”

Nice shot, Steve, and thanks for letting us use it on the cover!

Thank you Photoshop Elements Techniques Team for selecting my image for the cover of the September/October issue. This is a wonderful honor to be selected. This is the first time I have ever been on a cover of anything. My family is going crazy. I want to thank Rita of The CoffeeShop Blog for creating these wonderful (awesome) vintage frames. Rita’s tireless efforts do not go unnoticed.

I just love your cover photo, Steve. I love everything about it – the subjects, the brilliant colors, and the nostalgia. It’s place on the cover is well-deserved.

This is a gorgeous cover Steve! I was just trying to do a similar touch for some vintage cars – can you provide a few quick tips on getting the overall “look”??
