Print template and layer mask videos

By Rick LePage  ·  September 26th, 2010

I know it’s Sunday, but we’ve been busting our humps on a bunch of things related to the launch of Photoshop Elements 9, and I wanted to add a couple more videos to this week’s mix.

Matt’s latest video is a simple technique for creating a print layout template with a group of photos and some text. While it’s easy to just duplicate his template, what makes it so great is that, once you’ve got the process down, you can work to create your own design.

We’ve also posted another video on Photoshop Elements 9 from Mike Rodriguez. It’s on a feature that looks like a little one, but to me is one of the biggest additions to the program: real layer masks. Adding a layer mask with a blank adjustment layer has become second nature to me over the years (although I also used the layer mask add-on that came with Grant’s Tools), but it’s always been one of those things that grated on me. I wanted the quick click on the layer mask icon that Photoshop had, and with Elements 9, it’s finally here.

Well, I’m heading off to help my wife tidy things up around the house. Enjoy today’s additions, and look for a new video from our buddy Dave Cross mid-week.

I like the idea of now being able to use Layer Masks and a content specific healing brush as part of Elements. It has been too long since I use the organizer from elements 5, as I got rid of my windows machine and went to a Mac. It works much better for me. I would have liked to see Elements 9 offered as a $ 20.00 upgrade to anyone who is currently using Elements 8.
Perhaps when I see more video’s of what (9) can do I will be able to justify the $100.00 expenditure. Right now the few changes made between 8 and 9 are not game changing enough to make me rush out and buy the latest offering from Adobe at their asking price.
