Enter Wacom’s “A Thousand Forests” Photo Contest

By Rick LePage  ·  November 8th, 2011

Our friends over at Wacom are sponsoring a photo contest, “A Thousand Forests“:

“Celebrate creativity and join in the fun in Wacom’s A Thousand Forests — Inspiration and Creativity contest. Share an image of anything that expresses your creativity and passion to create: your artwork, photo, painting or something that you’ve made with your own two hands and then tell a little something about it.”

Wacom is donating $5 to the International Child Art Foundation for every person who submits a photo. And the very-cool grand prize (there are three of them!) is an all-expenses-paid trip and a $1,000 credit towards a course at the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops in New Mexico.

Submissions are being taken through November 30, and the voting round will commence on November 19. Winners will be announced on January 2, 2012.

What a unique idea for a contest and what a totally sweet grand prize!

Heads up, everyone! You too, PHOTOSHOPELEMENTSUSER.COM. If I read the instructions correctly, this is a poorly disguised popularity contest: have your friends vote for your work. Is that a photo contest or a not-so-clever attempt at alerting people about some “worthy” charity? No, it’s not a photo contest; it’s duplicity in the guise of a juried contest. Shame. Shame.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with a contest like this, Lee — there have always been true, juried shows, and popularity contests. Many people wouldn’t even think of submitting work to a juried show; and hopefully, good work will still triumph over ‘vote packing.’

I wish you were right (“good work …”). However, I stopped believing that when I was in my 20′s; I’ve seen the real world, and it ain’t purty.

It seems that I am a Day late, and a Dollar short again. I just read this tonight since I just got it by e-mail. So here is my $ 2 cents, Life is a contest, every click of the shutter is a contest, should we get it right the 100th time we have inter-pride. A type of Pride that we want to show it off, to hear someone not say anything but “Ah! that is Good”. Lee, when you go to bed tonight it will begin a contest, should you wake-up you will be a Winner. Your Prize will be that of a mental shutter click of a Wonderful World out there, so capture it. Than worry not about a contest, You have all ready Won My Friend. – Semper Fidelis

Have you ever gone to 500px. Great photo’s from all over the world, but it’s all about getting people to your site and vote. The more they hit on it the higher your rating. Fishing for votes is nothing new and quality cream always rises to the top. Hang it out there and let the world shoot at it. Great way to learn. Not always about the win. Would love to see Elements winners on this competition. You will see ideas you never thought about.

Where/how do you contact someone involved with the Thousand Forests contest? I need to review my entry and see if I can change one. It entered as landscape when it should be portrait presentation. It changes the perspective to have it entered incorrectly. I was suppose to be able to review my entry @ http://contestentry/215187 but that goes to Joomla, not the contest entries. Can you please direct me to the correct person handling this contest. Thanx, Trish Satkofsky trishebear01@yahoo.com
