Ask Liz: Rebooted
Ever wondered how to use the Color Replacement Brush? Have you felt frustrated with using Actions or applying Photo Effects? Would you want to learn about the differences between Sharpening techniques inside of Elements?
Well now’s the chance to get all your questions answered by me, Liz LePage, for our reboot of ASK LIZ!
When I first started working for the Photoshop Elements Techniques website, we came up with a great idea: why not have subscribers write in to a special email account where I can answer questions all about Elements? The messages came flooding in, so quickly in fact, that I barely had enough to answer half of them in a day (let alone get any other work done!). With a heavy heart, we shut off the account, I turned my efforts to other endeavors and most of your questions were shipped off to Customer Service.
I can honestly tell you, I miss Ask Liz. I absolutely adored answering Elements questions for you all, especially when I knew they would be concerns that other subscribers had, but weren’t able to find the time to ask. In so many cases, I’d receive similar emails wanting to know almost identical ideas and it turned into a fantastic sounding board for what YOU, our subscribers, really wanted to know about Elements.
I am so happy to announce the return of Ask Liz here at Photoshop Elements Techniques, a program I can’t wait to be a part of again. Send your questions, concerns, thoughts and ideas to ask-liz@photoshopelementsuser.com and let me know what you need help with or want to know more about!
Unfortunately, I won’t be able to answer every email with so many pouring through my account every morning as I’d be stuck at my computer for days! However, I’ll be weeding through them all, finding the most pressing issues or popular matters and posting a new blog post every few weeks with my answers. Plus, in the next few months, your question could be featured in an issue of our magazine as well!
So shoot me a line, send me a query or let me know what you want to know about Elements. I can’t wait to hear from you!
-Liz

Hi Liz,
I’ve got a pile of old family photo’s, faded and damaged somewhat, do you have some sort of workflow process I can follow to bring them back to their original glory before saving or printing them for my family to treasure for a few more generations. Thank you for your time – John -

I received the same “403 forbidden” screen when I clicked on the link provided in your email.
Luckily I knew another way to access your posting but others may not be so lucky.
Ask Liz…..great idea!

I have Elements/Premiere 10 and Lightroom 3.6. I have a ton of pictures mostly on an external network drive. I need to get organized. What is best to use? The organizer in Elements or Lightroom? How can start and make some sense out of these images. I take pictures with a Canon Ti4 and a movie camera. It seems I don’t anything the same way twice. How can I get organized. Thank you for your help.

Sandra,
If you have it, I’d use Lightroom to organize your pictues, and Elements for extended editing. Check out these articles on the PET site for more: http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/tag/lightroom/

Robert,
Elements and Lightroom are definitely compatible; it you use Lightroom, it’s best to _not_ use the Elements Organizer, since you really do want to organize your photos in one location.
Lightroom is best for organization and basic image editing. You can set Elements up to be the external editor, and, when you want to do more — make selections, perform more adjustments, stylize photos, or add text — jump from Lightroom into Elements with the Photo > Edit In > Photoshop Elements menu command.
